Kitchen Manager L.J. Christmas Manor - Coquitlam, BC Part-time, Permanent
We
are looking for a passionate, caring, mature individual to lead our
Dietary team. The typical hours of work are Sunday to Thursday 1 – 6 pm
with flexibility to cover other days and hours during events and music
nights.

Our
residents are seniors who live independently and enjoy the services we
offer including meals in our dining room and activities focused on
health and wellness.
Role Overview
- Lead and supervise the preparation and service of meals.
- Prepare menus that meet nourishment requirements of seniors and standardize recipes.
- Arrange staff coverage and scheduling changes following established procedures.
- Responsible for purchasing, receiving, storing and controlling all departmental supplies and managing inventory controls.
- Create and control the operational budget for the Dietary department.
- Meet with resident/family to understand needs and introduce them to our dining services.
- Implement and lead Dietary Continuous Quality Improvement process.
- Promote a positive team spirit within the department and the organization.
- Ensure dietary department delivers services in compliance with Food Safe Act and the team is well educated and informed and follow effective safe work procedures.
- Select, orientate, supervise, delegate tasks and evaluate the performance of the Dietary staff including performance reviews.
- Ensure maintenance of operational records (i.e. menus, production sheets, food temperatures and refrigerator and freezer temperatures) as required.
- Participate actively and sometimes lead events, committees, meetings and training as requested.
- Keep all parties well informed of department activities.
- Assist in Union matters related to the collective agreement, labour management relations and contract negotiations.
Qualifications
- At least three years of food service management experience.
- Strong leadership skills and proven ability to supervise others and nurture a healthy positive work environment.
- A passion for menu planning, preparation and presentation.
- Proven knowledge of nutritional needs of seniors, Food Safety Act and OH&S Act.
- Experience in large quantity food preparation, financial planning and food purchasing.
- Supervisory experience in a unionized Retirement Residence.
- Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and interpersonal.
- An effective team player who works well with others.
- A whatever it takes, positive can-do attitude.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Food safe I and II certification.
- Level I First Aid.
- Membership in the Pacific Society of Nutrition Management or equivalent is an asset.
