QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a multi outlet capacity in the Food & Beverage industry.
  • Minimum 5 years management and/or supervisory experience.
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Culinary Arts or equivalent experience an asset
  • Passionate about the tourism industry
  • Interest in skiing, snowboarding, golf, mountain biking and/or other summer and winter sports is an asset.
  • Food Safe and Serving it Right certifications and current working knowledge of alcohol service regulations.
  • Strong commitment to excellence in customer service.
  • Extremely organized and able to multi-task.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and knowledge of Worksafe BC guidelines.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Polished interpersonal skills

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management and operation of the following outlets
    • The Annex, Quick Service Restaurant - Day Lodge- 400 seats
    • Sunburst Lodge - Bar, Quick Service Restaurant - Mid Mountain - 160 seats
    • Umbrella Bar – Base of Orient Chair Lift – 24 seats
    • Catering and special events as required
    • Other areas as reasonably requested
  • I will work weekends, evenings and holidays as business levels dictate.
  • My schedule is subject to change only with the expressed approval of the Director of F&B.
  • Be present on the floor during peak business times each day. (Approximately 11AM – 3PM)
  • Spread my time equally between all the outlets I oversee and ensure that I spend at least 1 day per week in each location.
  • Work closely with the Culinary Team to coordinate and direct F&B outlet operations.
  • Hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of F&B staff and supervisors.
  • Collaborate with outlet supervisors to provide a common vision, motivation, task allocation, resource’s, performance evaluation, support and coaching to all staff members.
  • Manage annual financial budgets including sales, operations and capital
  • Ensure all SPR policies are adhered to as outlined in the current Employee handbook, as well as all applicable WCB regulations & any other applicable industry regulations
  • Maintain public relations with the community.
  • Develop, maintain and update the operational procedures and policies for all outlets.
  • Preparation of monthly financial variance reports.
  • Monitor daily sales and expenses for the location and develop strategies where necessary to meet budget parameters.
  • Initiates and implements food and beverage promotions
  • Inventory security, maintaining appropriate levels of inventory
  • Conduct monthly stock inventory and complete necessary month end paperwork
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and performance evaluations in accordance with SPR policy.
  • EMS (Environmental Management System) awareness and active participation in its administration.

Job Summary

Directs, coordinates and evaluates assigned kitchen, food production and food-service associates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coordinate and participate in activities of cooks and other associates engaged in preparing, cooking and serving food.
  • Ensure all food handling, sanitation and customer service standards are met.
  • Supervise hourly kitchen associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action.
  • Prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipes to meet production, delivery and service schedules.
  • Ensure proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures.

  • Receive and inspect product and supplies for quality and quantity to ensure appropriate inventory.

SUPERVISOR - FOOD SERVICES - Temporary

Help oversee our food services program and provide nutritious food to Vancouver students

The Vancouver School District is an exciting and dynamic school district which offers a wide range of opportunities for more than 50,000 learners from Kindergarten to adult. Our diverse School District employs almost 9,000 employees which are represented by 14 bargaining units as well as exempt management staff. The District operates 77 Elementary schools, 18 Secondary schools, 13 Annexes, 8 District Schools (leased or district program sites), 6 District Support Facilities and 3 properties on which businesses operate, for 125 active facilities. We are inviting applications for an experienced Supervisor of Food Services for a temporary 1-year position.

Join our team as Supervisor - Food Services of VBE Operated Cafeterias, with operational oversight for 11 cafeterias operated by the Vancouver School District. Vancouver’s large, urban and multicultural school district provides programs to more than 50,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. This includes offering food services to over 5,000 elementary and secondary students each day, including the Lunch2go/Breakfast2go programs, which provide meals to vulnerable students.

With three to five years of supervisory experience in cafeteria, catering or commercial food services – and experience supervising in a unionized work environment – you bring exceptional organizational skills to this role. Reporting to the Manager of Food Services, you will coordinate operational oversight and provide support for approximately 40 cafeteria support staff, provide monthly financial and operational reports to the district, coordinate food safety regulatory standards and implement the District Food Safe Plan in VBE-Operated Cafeterias.

In this position you will also supervisor Lunch2go/Breakfast2go production kitchen sites at multiple secondary school cafeterias to produce approximately 100 – 600 meals per day. You will supervise production staff to prepare these meals in accordance with a set district menu and in coordination with the district’s Culinary Arts Teaching Program.

Your proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook – as well as other computerized programs for food orders, inventory and point of sale – will enable you to expertly administer food and supply contracts and coordinate consolidated supply orders, receipt of goods, cafeteria inventory controls and invoice approval for the Lunch2go/Breakfast2go and cafeteria programs. You will also be responsible for coordinating business data collection for cafeteria operations.

As a Professional Cook or Food Service Supervisor, you are able to maintain food safe plans and meet required Vancouver Coastal Health regulatory standards, licences and permits.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree, diploma or certificate in hospitality, business administration, business operations or related discipline

  • Experience coordinating daily restaurant operations and creating plans to deliver superior food and beverage services, while maximizing customer experience
