Located in Vancouver, BC, our organization has a regular full-time position available for an experienced Assistant Manager, Food Services. In collaboration with the Manager, Food Services, the Assistant Manager participates in program and service delivery planning, implementation and evaluation to meet annual objectives. The Assistant Manager is responsible for providing direction and supervision to cooks and designated staff in the day-to-day operations of food production, preparation and distribution. In addition, the Assistant Manager maintains and provides statistical, financial and quality improvement reports as required and shares responsibility for overall operation of the department with the Manager, Food Services.
In collaboration with the Manager, Food Services, responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing the day to day activity of food services staff
  • Establishing and overseeing standardized production schedules, recipes, inventory levels and reheat methods
  • Monitors and evaluating the achievement of service objectives
  • Contributing to the development of service area standards, policies and procedures
  • Developing direct charge and contract order sheets
  • Interpreting and communicating regulations and standards to staff
  • Recruitment, performance management, attendance management, and discipline;
  • Representing the Employer on joint union/management meetings;
  • Administering the collective agreement;
  • Consulting with Human Resources; participating in the development of Food Services mission, philosophy, policies, objectives and standards and Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Providing input into the menu planning, auditing and recipe development process;
  • Participating in development of essential services plans
  • Monitoring equipment for preventative maintenance, repairs and replacement
  • Providing input regarding capital and operating budget requirements;
  • Contributing to the resolution of issues related to food safety, client satisfaction, food waste and menu audits; Co-managing food and catering services
Requirements:
Requirements include a level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service Administration or completion of an approved post-secondary course as a Food Service Supervisor/Manager and five (5) years’ recent related experience in service management in health facilities including operational experience with quality assurance programs and food service policy and procedures within a healthcare setting. Completion of relevant administration courses and graduation from a recognized culinary training course is an asset.

Job Summary

Hi we're looking for some Volunteer judges in the culinary world.


Every year girls ages 12-17 from metro Vancouver compete in our Girl Guides of Canada West Coast Area Iron Chef camp cooking competition. Girls create three dishes, appetizer, main, and dessert all over a camp stove with a limited supply of food chosen by lottery.


Girls are judged on taste, presentation, creativity, and nutrition. 



We are hoping to have three judges from the Culinary world ( Cooks, Dietitians, Food Services Managers and students in those fields) help us out.



Date: Saturday October 27th

Location: Fisher Field Picnic Shelter, Deas Island Regional Park, Delta

Event runs 12:30-5:00 Judging starts at 2:30 and results are announced at 4:30 you would need to arrive around 2:00 pm to meet your judging partners and stay till at least 4:00 pm

Director of Dietary Services - Brookside Senior Living, Langley

JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Dietary Services position is accountable to the Executive Director (ED), and is the primary liaison with the Registered Dietician to ensure that comprehensive nutrition assessments are completed as required for all tenants. This position oversees the Nutrition and Food Services Department.  The Director of Dietary Services is responsible for delivery of a nutritious and safe food service to the residents, visitors and staff.  The Director of Dietary Services will participate as a member of the Leadership Team and meet regularly to discuss, plan, implement and evaluate all facility operations. The Director of Dietary Services, in consultation and direction from the ED / Registered Dietician, ensures the development and implementation of policies and procedures to facilitate the achievement of high quality standards of service. Also responsible for ensuring resident well-being and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchases and maintains inventory control of food and other supplies.
  • Planning and organization of food service for special events.
  • Reviews and follows up on nutritional assessments from the Registered Dietician for new residents upon admission and reassessments as changes occur.
  • In consultation with the Registered Dietician, identifies resident needs for texture modified diets and food preferences as required.
  • Regularly liaises with resident/families, staff, and management to foster a holistic approach to care and services rendered.
  • Menu planning is done in consultation with the Registered Dietician. Ensures menus are communicated and delivered according to standards for residential care facilities.
  • Collaborates with other professional staff to perform audits and evaluate “at risk” data to improve the nutritional status of residents.
  • Liaises with facility staff to monitor meal service and resident acceptance.
  • In consultation with the ED is responsible for recruitment, hiring, supervision and evaluation of dietary staff.
  • Facilitates orientation of new staff and conducts regular performance evaluations.
  • Assesses ongoing in-service/training needs of dietary staff and communicates educational needs to the appropriate resource person.
  • Provides day-to-day support, coaching and guidance to dietary staff in the provision of high quality service.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Responsible to read all memos before the start of each shift.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Completion of a Food Service Nutrition Management Certificate, from a recognized educational facility
  • Red Seal Chef
  • Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
  • Ability to provide leadership in the development of nutritional standards
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent oral and written English skills
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate work assignments
  • Experience and sincere interest in a residential setting
  • Outstanding problem-solving, prioritization and time management capabilities
  • Proficient with computers
