Location: Coquitlam & Surrey

Position Summary

Food Services

Reporting to the Site/Care Leader, the Support Services Manager is responsible for the coordination and management of an organized, safe, and cost effective Food Service Department. The manager will assess and evaluate the food preparation and safe food handling practices and procedures, in accordance with the established policies and procedures and licensing requirements, to ensure high quality, nutritious and appealing meals for the residents. Responsibilities also include hiring, scheduling/workload, supervising and evaluating Food Service, Laundry, Housekeeping staff, and administration preparation of the departmental budget.

Environmental Services

Reporting to the Site/Care Leader, the Support Services Manager is responsible for providing a clean, sanitary and safe environment at the facility and apartment in accordance with established policies and procedures and licensing requirements. The manager will regularly review Infection Control sanitation and disinfection procedures, chemical dilution solutions and preventative maintenance programs. Responsibility also include management of the laundry department and directing minor renovations/repair of the facility as well as hiring, scheduling/workload, supervising, and evaluating Housekeeping, laundry staff.

Key Accountabilities

-Effective and efficient operation of all aspects of food service operations in accordance with standards, policies and practices of CareCorp, our clients and in compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring that health and safety policies, practices, standards and legislated/regulated requirements are in place and maintained at all times.
- Implementing, monitoring, and achieving all approved food service budgets and plans. Implement corrective actions to address any variances.
-Ensures that appropriate approvals/pre-approvals are obtained for all supplier orders in accordance with budget and client/CareCorp budget and policy deliverables.
- Plans menus and collects recipes according to nutritional and therapeutic diet needs of the facility and estimates food requirements in conjunction with the site dietician.
- Establishes standards and procedures for work of housekeeping, laundry and dietary staff.  Implement, manage and maintain quality programs including regular quality audits.
-Ensuring an appropriate supply and maintenance of all required dietary supplies.
-Orders and receives all supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers. Reconciles inventory received to supplier invoices and provides to the designated CareCorp or client representative for payment.
-Plans and assigns duties to staff and inspects work for conformance to prescribed standards.
-Attends regular meetings with the family council and with residents to receive feedback on the food and service.
-Investigates complaints regarding housekeeping/laundry, dietary services and equipment, and takes corrective action.
-Conducts orientation training and in-service training to explain policies, work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment.
-Evaluates records to forecast department personnel requirements.
-Identifies the need for repairs or replacement of furniture or equipment, and makes recommendations to CareCorp client management.
-Attends staff meetings to discuss company policies and residents’ concerns.
-Issues supplies and equipment to workers.

Qualifications and Competencies

-Grade 12 plus graduation from a post-secondary accredited two-year program in Food Service and Nutrition Management
-Certified member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management, or eligibility for membership
-Minimum of three years experience in the food service industry.
-Experience in a complex care or assisted living setting preferred.
-Experience managing staff (required) including a unionized environment (preferred).
- Current registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (preferred)
-Demonstrated ability to effectively, tactfully, courteously and professionally communicate verbally and in writing in English with residents, families, staff, other departments and contractors.
