JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Food Service Supervisor Department: Food
Service
Report to: Administrative Dietitian Status: Casual,
Excluded
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Administrative Dietitian, this position
oversees the food service operation by supervising cooks and food services
workers as well as performing related administrative duties. The incumbent will
work in accordance with the food safe and nutrition standards as well as the
mission, SENIOR values, and care philosophies of Villa Cathay Care Home to
achieve resident-centered, cultural-oriented food services.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises cooks and food service workers by
scheduling and coordinating work assignments, evaluating performance in
accordance to the established safety practices and procedures and ensure the
safe and hygienic handling of food.
2. Oversees the storage of food and related items
according to established standards. Establishes and ensures maintenance of food
rotations in order to minimized spoilage and waste.
3. Oversees the preparation, portioning, and/or serving
of meals. Monitors the use and maintenance of equipment
4. Plans menus, develop recipes and production sheets in
collaboration with the Administrative Dietitian and Clinical Dietitian to meet
nutritional analysis requirements and special needs of the residents and in
compliance with government requirements
5. Estimates food requirements in collaboration with food
service staff. Prepare and update production sheets. Orders and oversees
supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers.
6. Administers and operates within the approved budget
for financial control and ensures optimum utilization of resources. Monitors
expenditures and makes recommendations regarding budget and cost saving
measures.
7. Evaluates meals serviced to ensure the established
standards or quality and quantity are maintained. Oversees the implementation
of diet changes and ensures accuracy. Determines related training and
orientation requirement.
8. Responds to residents requests for specific food
items, responds to complaints, follows up and documents as necessary when care
plans require revision
9. Provide food safe and nutrition related training.
Orientates new staff and ensures all information needed is provided during
orientation.
10. Purchases supplies and equipment and ensures
inventory control
11. Prepares and maintains reports, statistical
information and departmental records as required by facility policies and
procedure, and Ministry of Health, and government legislation
12. Arranges appropriate catering of special events
13. Performs cooking and/or Food Service Worker duties as
required.
14. Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
• Certificate in Food Services Management
• Membership in the Society of Nutrition management
• Current certificate of Food safe I required; Food safe
level II an asset
• 5 year experience in food service premise; 3 year
recent experience in health care setting

• Physical and psychological ability to carry out the
duties of the position.
• Ability to write, read, and speak Chinese an asset.
