Food Service Supervisor - Children & Women's Hospital - Vancouver

Duties & Qualifications:
  • Assist the Shift Managers to supervise multiple food service units.
  • Coordinate frequent workplace inspections and WHMIS training of all staff and promptly report any workplace accident or incident to head office.
  • Maintain excellent client and customer relations.
  • Complete required administrative paperwork.
  • Oversee a team of food service workers.
  • Ensure smooth running of diet office processes.
  • Input diet orders and care plans.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with Compass’ Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Program, Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS regulations.

Food Security Supervisor - Pacific Community Resources Society

Position Summary:
The Food Security Supervisor will oversee a number of food programs at BYRC including breakfast club, school meals program, resource room dinner and culinary skills workshops for youth ages 13-24. The supervisor also oversees the general operations of the kitchen including centralized food purchasing, financial monitoring, kitchen safety and equipment maintenance. This position works with a team of chefs as well as youth to create nutritious, engaging food for and with youth. This position requires knowledge of food preparation, nutrition, facilitation, program development, and community development. Experience working within the local communities and diverse cultural contexts including Indigenous community are important.
Primary Duties:
  • Coordinating centralized purchasing and facilitation of meals for multiple programs within the centre.
  • Preparing and organizing resources to prepare multiple daily meals.
  • Facilitating culinary skills workshops and hands-on learning experiences with youth ages 13-25.
  • Recruiting, orientating, training and supervising food programs staff and volunteers.
  • Developing innovative food-based programs to respond to food security with the youth population in East Vancouver.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with relevant community partnerships.
  • Facilitating food security dialogues within the centre and youth community.
  • Supporting community events and celebrations through the food program.

Academic and Job Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Health and/or Food Systems or equivalent experience (diploma with a minimum of 2 years’ experience).
  • Experience working with diverse populations and communities
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating hands-on learning experiences with youth
  • Experience working in a commercial kitchen with multiple groups accessing the facilities
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of food security and food justice framework
Basic Requirements:
  • Food Safe Level 2 or willingness to obtain
  • Cook 2 or equivalent experience cooking for large groups
  • Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
  • Standard first aid certificate and CPR
Desired Requirements:
  • Experience developing curriculum for youth
  • Trained in trauma-informed practice
  • Training or certificates in mental health, conflict mediation, or crisis intervention

Diet Tech/Food Service Supervisor Relief (Casual) - Duncan, Vancouver Island

Utilizing a variety of computerized applications, the Food Service Supervisor/Technician Relief is responsible for implementing and adjusting individual meal plans for clients on therapeutic diets. The Food Service Supervisor/ Technician Relief meets time sensitive diet administration duties for multi-sites, ensuring nutrition and diet standards are met, and performing various related administrative duties. The Food Services Supervisor/Technician Relief is responsible for overseeing and participating in the delivery of food services to patients, residents, customers and clients; supervising Cooks and other designated staff for a multi-site organization: maintaining supplies, ensuring safety, quality and sanitation standards are met. Responsible for orienting other food services staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Graduation from a recognized two-year program in Food Service Supervision plus one year's recent related experience.
Graduation from a recognized 12 month program in cooking plus two years recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certificate in Food Safe Level 2.

  • Conduct regular training in-services and staff meetings as required and with the Support Services Team.
  • Implement, manage and maintain the Quality Assurance program as outlined by the company and the client, including weekly and monthly audits.
  • Proven experience and ability to assist in menu management, food cost controls and production including monitoring and evaluating meals and service to ensure established standards are maintained for both quality and quantity of all meals and snacks is required.
  • Implementation and control of a Food Safety Plan as well as HACCP, WHIMIS, and all Workplace regulations for a safe work place.
