BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) cares for the province's most acutely ill or injured children and youth, provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offers a broad range of health services. Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children (SHHC), a leading provincial facility offering specialized services to children and youth with developmental disabilities from birth to age 19, works collaboratively with BCCH. BC Women’s Hospital
As a Milk Handling Room Technician on a daily basis you would be responsible for collecting expressed breast milk from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), preparing infant formula, and breast milk feeds for patients, using laboratory equipment to accurately weigh and measure fortification, using software for inventory and feed preparation all while maintaining aseptic technique. Preparing feeds safely and accurately is of the utmost importance for the health of these vulnerable babies.
You are a Grade 12 graduate with a basic understanding of nutrition and a completion of a recognized (2) two year Food Service Supervisor Program or equivalent. Some educational equivalents often considered include B.Sc Nutrition, pharmacy technician or formal training in laboratory procedures. You have one year’s recent related experience in a hospital or laboratory setting. A high degree of attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize your workload are necessary skills for this role on a daily basis. Effective communication, solid administrative skills and teamwork will all identify you as our ideal candidate for this position.
