QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an approved Food Services Supervisor Course acceptable under Community Care Facilities Licensing.
Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
Experience working in a residential care and assisted living.
Experience in recruitment, supervision, education and evaluation of staff.
Knowledge of current Nutritional Standards, Residential Care Regulations, Environmental Health and regulatory requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good relationships with staff, residents, and families.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
RESPONSIBILTIES
As a member of the Leadership Team, ensures that the nutritional needs of residents are met through the delivery of appealing and nutritious therapeutic diets to residents in compliance with accepted Food Service Standards and Legislation for Trillium Communities. Ensures that housekeeping and laundry services meet required legislated standards and health authority standards.
DUTIES
- Establishes and maintains, in conjunction with the Dietitian, standards, policies and procedures for the purchase of food and related supplies, preparation and service of regular therapeutic meals and nourishments, and maintenance of accurate records as required.
- Develops, reviews and updates menu rotations in cooperation with the Dietitian.
- Evaluates and responds to feedback from Resident and Family Councils and resident care reviews related to food and meal service and documents responses to concerns and complaints as per policy.
- Recruits hire orientate, supervises, educates and evaluates sufficient numbers of qualified Food Service, Laundry, Housekeeping staff to meet operational requirements and takes disciplinary action when necessary.
- Instructs and supervises staff to maintain high standards of sanitation and safety in the handling, storage, and delivery of food in compliance with Food Safe and Environmental Health requirements.
- Ensures the use of safe work practices and compliance with WHMIS and WorkSafe BC regulations and care of equipment.
- Arranges orientation of new staff to their duties and the facility Fire Emergency Procedures.
- Maintains accurate inventories, records of purchases and submits timely reports as required.
- Prepares and submits annual food and supply budgets and identifies equipment and capital requirements to the Executive Director.
- Plans, implements and evaluates ongoing training programs for staff and encourages staff to make use of education opportunities.
- Promotes positive communication, cooperative working relationships and good public relations within and outside of the facility.
- Participates in Leadership Meetings, Occupational Health and Safety, Resident and Family Council Meetings, Labour Relations Committee and provides feedback to other members of the team as necessary.
- Hires, trains, directs, and evaluates departmental staff including the completion of regular performance appraisals. Makes recommendations to the Executive Director, when necessary, regarding discipline and termination of departmental staff.
- Supports quality improvement philosophy and processes, including the creation projects. Coordinates and keeps documentation regarding staff education for department.
- Acts as a partner with external stakeholders – including the Health Authority, CSNM, Licensing and Suppliers.
