Food Service Supervisor - Courtenay (Vancouver Island)




 Location - Glacier View Lodge, Courtenay, BC 
Position:  Part time, Permanent
Compensation:  $27.45 an hour

JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Support Services Manager this position is responsible for overseeing the food services operation by ensuring that Food Service staff maintain standards for quality and service and that safe work practices are adhered to. The Food Service Supervisor performs related administrative duties and visits residents to obtain diet related information in regards to nutritional and therapeutic diet needs.

JOB DUTIES:
Mentors, coaches and directs food service staff by demonstrating, training and instructing on established procedures, processes and standards in the food service operation.
Supervises food service staff by preparing time and work schedules, assigning duties on the basis of work priorities and availability of staff, redistributing staff where necessary,supporting the scheduling clerk as required. Ensures that employees work in compliance with food safe standards and work safe practices. Evaluates employee performance and determines related training and orientation requirements.
Oversees and evaluates the preparation, portioning and serving of meals to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are maintained; checks to ensure the accuracy and presentation of food and beverage items presented to residents.
Ensures therapeutic diet standards are followed through orientation and training of staff.
Plans menus and participates in recipe development according to nutritional requirements.
Develops and reviews standards, processes and operation procedures. Inspects the department regularly for safety and sanitation, and good working conditions of equipment and utensils.
Orders and receives supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers.
Visits residents and/or family members to obtain and exchange diet-related information. Reviews dietitian records and liaises with other staff to obtain necessary information.
Performs cooking and/or Food Service Worker duties as required.
Communicates appropriately within the department and coordinates with other service areas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from a recognized two year Diploma in Food and Nutrition Management program plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must have an Advanced Food Safe certificate (Food Safe 2 or equivalent) and be eligible for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
