Build on your education & career experience as you oversee the department activities for an assigned location in the distribution and service of foods to residents and clients including the supervision of designated staff.
WORK PERFORMED
Under the general direction of the Manager, Food & Nutrition Services, the Food Services Supervisor I performs technical and supervisory duties within Food & Nutrition Services relating to processing diet orders, determining therapeutic diet requirements, meals service, and related administrative functions.
  • Supervises designated staff at the Food Service Worker I & II levels to ensure proper work procedures are followed and meals are served to standards of quality and quantity; ensures department is staffed to determined levels and schedules and schedules relief employees.
  • Ensures safety, security, and sanitation practices are adhered to.
  • Oversees the storage of food and related items; receives and directs storage of supplies as necessary.
  • Identifies malfunctioning equipment per staff reports and submits maintenance requisitions as necessary.
  • Checks tray assembly for accuracy and completeness; prepares early and/or late trays as required.
  • Evaluates employee performance and determines related training and orientation requirements.
  • Organizes and sets up various catering functions and special meal functions as required.
  • Processes therapeutic diet orders, meal requisitions, and updates patient diet information in the Materials System Management (MSM) and Order-Entry systems.
  • Answers the phone; follows up on requests and inquiries from ward personnel.
  • Supervises cafeteria operations and responds to customer inquiries; operates cash register as required; counts cash and prepares cashier report for deposit.
  • Visits inpatients with dietary problems on wards as assigned.
  • Charts food preferences and attaches information to patient’s chart; records details in Dietitian’s Record Book.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience
  • Graduation from a recognized two (2) year program in Food Services Technology, plus one (1) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to supervise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience is acceptable.
