Since 1983, Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon has
provided a home-away-from-home for out of town families with children
who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses and are
receiving treatment at BC Children’s Hospital. The House provides a
nurturing and supportive environment where families can heal together.
In addition, we operate a 2,000 square foot Family Room in Surrey
Memorial Hospital, providing families a medical-free space to rest and
retreat while steps away from their child.

About the Position
An integral part of the organization, the Meal Program
Coordinator works with the volunteer, programs and development teams to
ensure excellent execution and stewardship of volunteer and corporate
group activities within the House including Family Meals and group
activities. As a community based organization, RMH BC welcomes donors to
the House daily to take part in programs that serve our families.
Family Meals is a signature program for RMH BC and this role ensures that food provided to families at RMH is safely stocked, stored, prepared. The Coordinator ensures that that program volunteers and Meal groups are properly stewarded and supported at all stages, from planning meals and activities, through to execution and follow up.
This position requires a flexible schedule, working Sunday through Thursday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, to best meet the needs of our families and deliver the Meal program effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
Family Meals Program Leadership
- Oversee the Family meals program to ensure food prepared by volunteer groups in the House is nutritious and safely prepared
- Develop menus for and/or with groups to offer families a varied range of choices
- Ensure supplies and equipment are adequate and working properly
- Help to expand and elevate the program to better serve families’ needs
- Provide tours to groups in cooperation with the Development team to share our story
- Proactively build relationships with community and corporate groups to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.
- Support meal program and House volunteers
- Coordinate regular training for meal volunteers as needed
- Work with Volunteer Manager to recruit, orient and train volunteers
- Ensure training standards for volunteers are maintained

- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Superior computer skills;
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written, dealing with a range of people, from families to donors to external suppliers.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Must be prepared to work a flexible schedule that will include evenings and weekends.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record with access to a car as needed.
- A commitment to working cooperatively in a team environment with staff, volunteers, families, donors and the public.
Experience and Educational Requirements
- Culinary training or food service experience
- Event or project management experience is an asset
- Experience in developing and implementing programs and policies
- University degree or college diploma in related field.
- Working knowledge of Food safe practices.
