The Banquet Captain / Manager is responsible for the overall supervision of function events food and beverage services and staff while ensuring the experience is at a consistently high level.  Responsibilities include regular involvement with recruitment and training and development of the Food & Beverage team to ensure members and guests are met with friendly, efficient and attentive service, and served quality food and beverage products, meeting and exceeding their expectations.  This role will report directly to the Director of Food and Beverage.

WORK PERFORMED
  • In collaboration with the Catering Manager, the Banquet Captain / Manager will ensure the standards for the Banquet department are being upheld
  • Responsible for hiring, initiating training, coaching and performance management of Banquet staff in consultation with the Catering Manager
  • Set a tone of consummate professionalism for the department, ensuring the team is knowledgeable and consistent
  • Be highly visible during events, meeting and greeting members and guests in functions and constantly engaging in quality checks to ensure satisfaction
  • Ensure duties of all front of house Banquet staff, including thorough mise-en-place and opening and closing duties, are being completed
  • Be vigilant, ensuring areas are maintained, with regular cleaning schedules and inspections established
  • Assist in the development of a training program and service standards for Banquet staff
  • Take a leadership role in supporting activities driving staff and member engagement and recognition
  • Assist in recruitment and onboarding of new employees as required
  • Responsible for overseeing numerous events including assisting with administrative work relating to banquets and catering
  • Develop promotions that will drive sales for the various Banquets
  • Monitor new product launches, provide feedback on menus, and recommend changes as appropriate
  • Have financial responsibilities such as payroll submission, cash-out procedures and annual budgeting
  • Responsible for responding to member questions or requests both positive and negative

REQUIREMENTS
  • Post-secondary education in the area of Food and Beverage or equivalent experience in Food and Beverage operations
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a Food & Beverage supervisor/management role
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a high quality and high volume operation
  • Proficient in Point of Sales software such as Jonas Software and Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in private club/hotel environment an asset
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment an asset
