Supervisor - Food Services - Vancouver School Board

SUPERVISOR - FOOD SERVICES - Temporary

Help oversee our food services program and provide nutritious food to Vancouver students

The Vancouver School District is an exciting and dynamic school district which offers a wide range of opportunities for more than 50,000 learners from Kindergarten to adult. Our diverse School District employs almost 9,000 employees which are represented by 14 bargaining units as well as exempt management staff. The District operates 77 Elementary schools, 18 Secondary schools, 13 Annexes, 8 District Schools (leased or district program sites), 6 District Support Facilities and 3 properties on which businesses operate, for 125 active facilities. We are inviting applications for an experienced Supervisor of Food Services for a temporary 1-year position.

Join our team as Supervisor - Food Services of VBE Operated Cafeterias, with operational oversight for 11 cafeterias operated by the Vancouver School District. Vancouver’s large, urban and multicultural school district provides programs to more than 50,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. This includes offering food services to over 5,000 elementary and secondary students each day, including the Lunch2go/Breakfast2go programs, which provide meals to vulnerable students.

With three to five years of supervisory experience in cafeteria, catering or commercial food services – and experience supervising in a unionized work environment – you bring exceptional organizational skills to this role. Reporting to the Manager of Food Services, you will coordinate operational oversight and provide support for approximately 40 cafeteria support staff, provide monthly financial and operational reports to the district, coordinate food safety regulatory standards and implement the District Food Safe Plan in VBE-Operated Cafeterias.

In this position you will also supervisor Lunch2go/Breakfast2go production kitchen sites at multiple secondary school cafeterias to produce approximately 100 – 600 meals per day. You will supervise production staff to prepare these meals in accordance with a set district menu and in coordination with the district’s Culinary Arts Teaching Program.

Your proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook – as well as other computerized programs for food orders, inventory and point of sale – will enable you to expertly administer food and supply contracts and coordinate consolidated supply orders, receipt of goods, cafeteria inventory controls and invoice approval for the Lunch2go/Breakfast2go and cafeteria programs. You will also be responsible for coordinating business data collection for cafeteria operations.

As a Professional Cook or Food Service Supervisor, you are able to maintain food safe plans and meet required Vancouver Coastal Health regulatory standards, licences and permits.
