WORK PERFORMED

The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for all of the food coming out of the kitchen. Monitoring the quality of the food, following all food safety regulations, creating new food entrees, and coordinating the entire kitchen. The Food Service Supervisor is also responsible for hiring and training new and existing kitchen staff.

  • Report directly to General Manager.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and supervise the activities of the Kitchen Department to provide fresh, tasty food, colourful presentations, attentive and a warm service with a smile.
  • Understand Resident dietary restrictions and immediately correct any issues.
  • Responsible for co-coordinating food production, meal preparation and ensuring all staff maintains the high standards for the quality and service at all times.
  • Prepare and maintain all required records such as invoices, reports, meal counts, catering, etc. in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure safety and hygiene practices/procedures are adhered to and assist in maintaining quality assurance standards that comply with all Health and Safety Standards and Regulations.
  • Place orders, maintain accurate and timely inventories and assist in departmental budget control as required by adhering to policies and procedures of purchasing, ordering, stocking, and inventory control.
  • Create new entrees for the menu and ensure all food safety regulations are followed.
  • Receive, unpack, and check incoming materials as necessary. Check invoices against orders and goods received and resolve discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Daily walkthroughs of the dining room, connecting with residents.
  • Inspect the quality of the food and be aware of new culinary trends and recipes.
  • Relieve Cooks and Servers when they are away or on vacation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must hold a diploma in Food and Beverage Management/Hospitality Management from a recognized college or Red Seal designation.
  • Must have good scratch cooking skills, creative with modern presentations.
  • Must hold a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and Serving It Right Certificate.
  • Supervisor experience in the Hospitality or Retirement industry is an asset.
  • Interpersonal skills are required to handle a variety of interactions with residents, families, and team members.
  • Must possess excellent supervisory and leadership abilities.
  • Basic knowledge in general beverage service i.e., wines.
  • Ability to organize work, supervise and operate related equipment.
