Banquet Manager - Port Coquitlam

JOB SUMMARY

Position: Banquet Manager
Company: The Giggle Dam Dinner Theatre
Job Location: Port Coquitlam, BC
Type: Full-time / Part-time / Casual / Permanent
Salary: $17 - $27 an hour

WORK PERFORMED

  • Above all else, this position requires you to bring your experience and education to solve the unique challenges within the theatre. This could be as simple as getting custom drink orders to over 200 guests in less than 15 minutes, evaluating existing practices and finding new efficiencies, and overall being a self-starter, envisioning a new way of doing things, not just "how we've done it for 20 years." We're looking for new, fresh, energetic ideas;
  • You will have full responsibility for the front-end staff (servers, bussers, and bar staff). You will hire, fire, and provide training that is ongoing to all floor staff;
  • You will supervise cash-out, all money, and all tip distribution each week for more than 45 staff;
  • You will participate in planning and weekly operations/production meetings regarding guest show operations;
  • You'll need a flexible schedule. We presently operate from Thursday to Sunday, but your job will have some administrative responsibilities during the week like scheduling. You'll also be required, from Nov 15th to Dec 23rd for our famous Christmas productions, which sell out to large groups each and every Christmas;
  • You'll be responsible for the entire dining room facilities, ensuring that cleaning staff have done their job properly (though you don't directly supervise them) and that the setup team has set the dining room according to standards;
  • You will be our main point of contact as a party planner, wedding consultant, and out-of-house events coordinator;
  • You will work with movie and production teams on a regular basis to provide catered lunch or dinner service, depending on the need;
  • You will ensure that all celebration packages are delivered, which normally come with swag and a drink on stage;
  • All managers are expected to be supportive in assisting with running drinks from the bar during the drink rush. Our performing cast, to enhance the experience, serve all entrées, but there may be some light expo work to run something from the kitchen when staff are otherwise engaged - We're a team and you'll always be ready to help your team as and where required;
  • Preparing work schedules using Square Teams and completing documentation in a timely manner;
  • We have a large team, so you should be comfortable communicating with the team via radio/earpiece during dining room operation;
  • Preparing the weekly payroll reviews for our administration staff;
  • Answering customers' questions and accommodating special requests;
  • Providing excellent customer service when a customer experiences an issue and you are empowered to do whatever is necessary to ensure complete service recovery;

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accredited certificate or diploma in catering, culinary Arts, hospitality, or similar;
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in hospitality is strongly preferred;
  • 3-5 years of experience in banquet management, or similar;
  • Proficiency in using online booking software to review reservations for the coming week to assist you in scheduling staff;
  • Exceptional ability to plan banquets, manage budgets, and meet deadlines;
  • Experience in supervising banquet venue staff;
  • Ability to collaborate with production teams, administration, and other department heads;
  • In-depth knowledge of hospitality industry best practices;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent team management skills;
