Learning Objectives:
- Learn about the nutritional needs of the elderly and the prevalence of malnutrition in Long Term Care. Generations, a care center in Calgary, has developed a menu that balances the nutritional and cultural needs of Ismail Muslims. Residents are involved in improving and choosing menu items at food-tasting events. Quality improvement strategies like meal rounds, feedback forms, surveys and audits are key. A checklist was developed to ensure variety and accreditation standards. With all of this in place, food service satisfaction is always challenging.
