WORK PERFORMED
- 1. Ensures all residents are nutritionally assessed with a care plan in place within 30 days of admission and are reviewed in accordance with the Standards for Adult Care Facilities manual. Interviews residents and families documenting and care planning for food preferences, habits and dietary needs.
- 2. Participates in and makes nutrition care recommendations at care conferences or provides written input if unable to attend.
- 3. Uses relevant programs / software to document and report up to date accurate nutritional data and departmental communication.
- 4. Supports residents and families in relation to nutritional requirements and concerns.
- 5. Communicates resident dietary information and concerns to the Care Department; Physicians and families as required.
- 6. Assists the Support Services Manager in the development of policies and procedures for the Food Services Department.
- 7. In conjunction with the Support Services Manager, ensures that the nutritional and therapeutic requirements of the residents are met through menu planning, standardized recipes and meal service delivery.
- 8. Ensures residents’ rights of privacy and confidentiality are maintained. Respects and maintains the spirit, dignity and individuality of the residents.
- 9. Attends Medication Safety Advisory Committee / Infection Control meetings.
- 10. Attends approved work related conferences and seminars to promote and maintain professional development.
- 11. Conducts staff in-service to Food Service and Care staff based on current needs and nutritional requirements.
- 12. Ensures standards for provision of safe and nutritious food and feeding techniques are met. Participates in and maintains quality assurance program for Food Services Department.
- 13. Communicates/liaises with relevant organizations such as other long term care homes or acute care in support of resident nutritional needs.
- 14. Maintains a current knowledge of and complies with all facility policies and procedures.
- 15. Attends Resident Council meetings.
- 16. Participates in Food Services Department meetings.
- 17. Supports coordination of resident dining room seating arrangements with the Director of Care and maintains up to date seating plans for Nursing and Food Service Departments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current registration in the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
- Restricted Activity A and C qualifications.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a long-term care facility preferred or a strong background in nutrition for the elderly.
