WORK PERFORMED

• Leads the nursing and care team by providing coaching and mentorship in clinical decision-making, fostering evidence based best practices, and modelling the resident and family centred care philosophy. Identifies education requirements as needed.
• Responsible for hiring, orientating, retaining, coaching, disciplining, and terminating the nurses, unit clerks, and health care assistants. Investigates incidents and completes proper documentation as required.
• Collaborates with the DOC, ensuring nursing practices align with the provincial governing bodies and Menno Place’s vision, mission, and values.
• Advises the DOC on supply control concerns, emerging equipment needs and operational resource requirements.
• Supports the DOC in quality improvement initiatives, Infection prevention and control processes and audits, and clinical practice developments as required.
• Provides team members with regular feedback regarding performance through the probationary period and continuous performance evaluations
• Identifies nursing department learning needs and makes provisions for appropriate education to support clinical care program delivery and increase capacity building of team members.
• Actively participates in internal and external committees according to the terms of reference and as required, including care conferences, interdisciplinary team meetings, and OH&S.
• Participates in the On-Call Program for Menno Home and Menno Hospital.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current BCCNM registration
• Knowledge of and experience using the LEADS framework
• Minimum of five years’ related experience in geriatric nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
