WORK PERFORMED
- Plan and oversee the daily operations of the school food service program.
- Ensure compliance with AHS health and safety regulations and food service standards.
- Develop and implement menus that meet nutritional requirements and cater to the diverse needs of students including student allergies.
- Manage the procurement of food and supplies, ensuring cost-effective purchasing and inventory management.
- Supervise and train food service staff and volunteers, including hiring, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and parents to address specific dietary needs or restrictions and handle customer feedback and resolve any concerns or complaints related to the food service program.
- Familiarization and good understanding of the LunchTime ordering platform & payment systems.
- Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and meal participation for reporting purposes.
- Manage the budgeting processes for the food service program, including monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to school food service.
- Conduct regular Quality Assurance inspections of kitchen facilities and equipment to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and safety. Implement and enforce sanitation and food handling procedures to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
- Manage food service operations (e.g. supervise personnel, create menus, monitor meal accounts and expenditures, evaluate new products and/or menus, oversee cleaning procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing efficient food services at CFIS in compliance with established nutritional and health requirements.
- Orient new employees to work center and school site processes for the purpose of providing training and information regarding site operations and activities.
- Oversee the preparation, cooking, serving and transportation of food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting projected meal quantities and mandated nutritional and health standards and ensuring appealing presentation, including portion control.
- Participate in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- If & when required, perform functions of other kitchen positions, as needed, for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage within CFIS food services operations.
- Prepare documentation (e.g. meal program records, reconciliation reports, cash summary, digital time sheets, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information including the processing of receipts.
- Reconcile transactions (e.g. meal counts, monies collected, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining account balances in compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Schedule work hours and assignments for cafeteria employees for the purpose of ensuring adequate coverage for daily operations.
- Stock food, condiments and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items.
- Educate the school community on the importance of waste management. i.e.: recycling, composting and garbage collection.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in a food service or cafeteria management role is expected;
- A diploma, university degree, or equivalent work experience in a relevant field;
- Superior oral and written communication skills;
- Valid AHS Food Safety Provincial certification;
- Competent technology skills, and
- A valid Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.
