WORK PERFORMED
- Responsible for hiring, communicating job expectations, training, mentoring, coaching and developing staff. Provides work direction and conducts regular employee evaluations.
- Strong knowledge of and compliance with the collective agreements, OH&S, and PHS employee policies and procedures.
- Investigates work conduct and staff performance issues. Facilitates remedial action or progressive disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
- Participates in grievance processes and other labour relations matters when necessary.
- Responsible for filling unfilled scheduled vacancies and doing last minute shift coverage. Reviews schedules in advance to identify upcoming issues. Works with the Coverage Team.
- Schedules and monitors attendance. Responsible for staff timesheet punches and shift adjustments.
- Promotes teamwork and a positive atmosphere.
- Responsible for designing the food production and delivery systems for Food Services. Centralizes food purchasing and distribution to project and program sites.
- Sets operating standards in PHS kitchens ensuring quality control and continuous quality improvement. Recommends adjustments to staffing levels.
- Assesses workflow efficiency of Cook Coordinators, Cooks, and Food Service Workers positions.
- Ensures menus and recipes comply with nutritional guidelines. Ensures expectations for programs that are funded to observe dietary restrictions are met. Enlists the services of a registered dietitian to perform menu reviews.
- Ensures systems and logistics for meal delivery to projects and programs is prioritized and that meals are delivered to projects and programs on-time, each day.
- Ensures Food Safe standards are met. Completes inspections and establishes remedial action plans for problem areas. Ensures staff Food Safe certificates are up-to-date.
- Works closely with Housing and Programs management on issues/feedback related to food quality, and resident satisfaction.
- Liaises with external suppliers and vendors regarding equipment purchases and repairs. Responsible for coordinating the care and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
- Researches, drafts and submits grant proposals. Liaises with community groups, such as the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, about food donation opportunities.
- Responsible for spending within the limits of the Food Services budget. Makes cost-effective purchases of supplies and services. Makes recommendations regarding the Food Services operating budget. Monitors and adjusts expenditures.
- Liaises with external vendors, suppliers and local resources to procure food. Sources wholesale/low cost/local food.
- Works with the Health and Safety Advisor to conduct accident and injury reports in compliance with OH&S and WorkSafe BC regulations.
- Performs various administrative and other duties as required.
- Bachelor degree or industry certification in Food and Hospitality or Nutritional Sciences.
- 5-7 years of food service and nutrition management experience.
- Knowledge of budget management.
- Demonstration of superior interpersonal skills with a preference to working as part of a team.
- Proven ability to be highly self-motivated, demonstrate initiative and recommend changes, when required to improve operations.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and promote harmonious respectful working relationships.
- Exceptional attention to detail; advanced analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to find and implement imaginative, cost-effective and practical solutions to food program challenges.
- Non-violent crisis intervention certification.
- WCB Level One First Aid and CPR.
- Valid Food Safe level 2.
