WORK PERFORMED
- Develops a human resources plan for staff for both sites to ensure future staffing needs are met and determines the ongoing credentialing requirements for Food and Nutrition Services staff. Identifies and articulates the strategic directions for professional development and ensures the implementation of approved strategies to achieve these goals. Develops nutrition services goals and objectives.
- Prepares, approves, administers, and monitors the Food and Nutrition operating budget of both sites. Develops and monitors financial and operating reports, annual reports and workload measurements. Monitors the utilization of Nutrition Services using a workload measurement tool.
- Oversees a quality monitoring system and provides information and support to programs regarding required changes in practices. Directs the implementation and evaluation of continuous quality improvement. Develops implements and evaluates the department’s business plans. Oversees service agreements between the Food and Nutrition Services Department and outside suppliers.
- Establishes systems to ensure professional standards for quality and service delivery within Food and Nutrition Services. Participates with clinical dieticians to ensure clinical nutrition services practice guidelines and policies and procedures are adhered to. Ensures professional standards, practice guidelines and the code of ethics are understood, monitored and maintained. Monitors practice trends and makes recommendations on new skill requirements. Identifies opportunities to promote and support innovations in practice. Identifies resource requirements for continuing education and professional development.
- Maintains a system of policy development to ensure policies pertinent to Food and Nutrition Services are consistent with professional and practice guidelines and corporate policy. Maintains an awareness of legislation governing clinical practice.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to Masters Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related Health Sciences Administration from a recognized university plus completion of a Dietitian’s of Canada accredited Dietetic Internship and seven years’ recent related experience in a complex health care or institution environment including a minimum of five years’ in a managerial or leadership capacity. Registrant of the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and member of the Dietitians of Canada.
- Ability to formulate and implement overall strategic plans consistent with organizational direction. Ability to facilitate and implement initiatives. Ability to foster team thinking and a work environment that motivates and creates value for the department and organization. Ability to liaise effectively with staff at all levels of the organization and with partners in other health centres, community agencies and academic institutions. Ability to provide leadership and to problem solve creatively. Ability to manage financial, operational and human resources. Computer knowledge in the Windows environment including the development and use of PowerPoint presentations, organizational and Gantt charts for effective planning and communication.
