Every year, the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) offers three $1,500 National Scholarships to recognize Student Members enrolled in CSNM Accredited Nutrition and Food Services Programs.

Marianne Bitang, in her last term of the Nutrition & Food Service Management program, has successfully won one of them! Please join us in congratulating her on this achievement, along with our Nutrition Department and instructors!

Langara College is celebrating 49 years on 49th Avenue.   As part of our celebration, the 49 Langarans Awards is a celebration of our exceptional community. From founders to change makers and visionaries, our former students, alumni, employees, and community partners have made incredible contributions to the College, in their profession, and out in the community.

Each nominee has made an impact in their own unique way, and we are so proud to call them Langarans.

In memoriam - Helen Armstrong

In memoriam            Helen Armstrong (1938 – 2019)

It is with sadness that we let the British Columbia CSNM community know about the the passing of a person responsible for the building of the profession and the education that went with it.

A Langara faculty member until fall 1999 when she took early retirement, Helen will be remembered for her work as Department Chair of the Nutrition and Food Services Management department. During her time at the College she taught and inspired a generation of nutrition management students sharing her passion and knowledge of the food service in the healthcare sector.

Helen  is remembered as a generous, compassionate, ‘glass half-full’ kind of person, who always found the good in others. Many of the graduates of the Nutrition and Food Service Management Diploma program will remember her fondly. 

Ever philanthropic, Helen established a scholarship for Nutrition and Food Service Management diploma program students in her name in 2012.  Donations to this scholarship in her memory can be made through the Langara College Foundation.  https://langara.ca/foundation/donate/index.html .

Langara Instructor Awarded CSNM's Mentorship Award

Laura Cullen wins prestigious award

The Canadian Society of Nutrition Management recognized long time Langara instructor, Laura Cullen with the Mentor award in June 2017.

The award identifies the individuals who demonstrate:

• Current and relevant knowledge, expertise and leadership in the Food and Nutrition Management profession;
• Personal investment of commitment, time and energy to build a mentoring relationship based on mutual trust and respect;
• The sharing of professional experiences and lessons learned, including successes and mistakes;
• A learning attitude coupled with self-confidence: a positive role model.
