Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Operations Manager. This position assumes the role as a leader in planning, directing, developing, and managing the support services department. The responsibilities include meeting and adhering to professional standards, complying with organizational and corporate policies and procedures, supporting corporate and organizational missions, goals, and values; promoting teamwork among associates and fostering positive resident outcomes. Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills as well as the ability to work well with others and be sensitive to their problems, concerns and goals. Being ‘on call’ in the event of an emergency will be a requirement of this position.

Responsibilities:

·         Help the team to promote and maintain an atmosphere or harmony and a peaceful home like environment.

·         Culinary certificate from recognized Institution preferred

·         Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Control Points principles (HACCP).

·         Food Service Nutrition Manager designation.

·         Commitment to continuous education.

·         Maintenance and upgrading of immunizations.

·         Commitment to provide the highest quality of service.

·         Comply with all employment requirements as detailed in the Simpe Q hiring package and Licensing guidelines

·         Conducts regular meetings with staff to inform educate or discuss changes, or updating of procedures and standards.

·         Maintains budget and monitors expenditures for assigned areas.

·         Supervises inventory for food requirements. Monitors supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers. 

·         Reviews, evaluates, and implements policies in coordination with the views and wishes of ICC.

·         Expectation of knowledge and the daily practice ICC and Simpe Q policies and procedures related to position.

·         Complete audits in accordance with Licensing requirements.

·         Supervises work assignments and evaluating performance.

·         Ensures safety practices and procedures are adhered to.

·         Knowledge of therapeutic diets.

·         Ensures resident and personal safety.

·         Oversees and updates standards and procedures for assigned area.

·         Participates in the orientation, training and continuing education of staff.

·         Conducts regular meetings with staff to inform educate or discuss changes, or updating of procedures and standards.

·         Maintains budget and monitors expenditures for assigned areas.

·         Ensures consistent staffing levels.

·         Completes probationary and annual performance appraisals.

·         Responsible for quality assurance activities such as ensuring correct food safe temperatures are hot/cold and holding service.

·         Requisitions maintenance and/or housekeeping or laundry repairs are addressed by maintenance department.

·         Consults with clinical dietitian for diet modifications and changes resident food preferences as required. Supervises inventory for food requirements. Monitors supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers. 

·         Evaluates resident meal services including tray service and dining rooms to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are maintained and oversees the preparation, portioning and/or serving of meals. 

·         Plans and develops recipes according to nutritional and therapeutic diet needs of the facility and estimates food requirements. 

·         Processes diet orders as required by making appropriate menu substitutions for standard, texture modified and therapeutic diets.  Advises food service employees and dietitian as required.

·         Attends meetings as requested: discusses appropriate action with dietitian and relays outcomes to staff.

·         Oversees the ordering all products related to Dietary, Laundry, and Housekeeping Chemicals, Paper Products, Linens etc. 

·         Performs other related duties as assigned by COO/ Directors.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE


Under the direction of the General Manager, and with the support of the Regional Food & Beverage Manager, is responsible for maintaining the highest level of resident and guest dining experience and satisfaction. Performs administrative duties to maintain budget controls, food safety, and employee training and retention. Maintain all standards within the guidelines of provincial licensing and regulation.


BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS


  • Minimum of 2 years of management experience in a similar senior or hospitality setting
  • Red Seal certification (or equivalent)
  • Food Safe Level 1 (Level 2 is an asset)
  • Completed a minimum of grade 12
  • Written and verbal fluency in English
  • Proficient computer skills. Word, Excel, and familiar with online ordering systems
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership skills. A service-oriented individual, whose visions and values align with those of Verve Senior Living.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.
  • Follows Verve Senior Living corporate cycle menu
  • Adjusts cycle menu to meet residents’ preference, within budgeted goals, while maintaining the standards set by Canada’s Food Guide for Seniors
  • Utilizes seasonal local products whenever possible
  • Purchases product through Verve approved suppliers
  • Creates the standard for plating and garnishing meals in an attractive manner. Enhances selection through menu options and a variety of condiments
  • Confirms that there is a “Chef’s Call” for dining attendants prior to each meal service
  • Maintains beverage menu with a variety of alcohol choices
  • Controls expenses by forecasting production quantity, portion control and waste management
  • Initiates regular quality assurance audits to gauge resident dining satisfaction
  • Maintain high level of food safety practises to meet Verve Senior Living standards
  • Attends interdisciplinary committee meetings regarding nutritional issues and chairs the food advisory/ resident food committee meetings.
  • Attends regional dining services meetings biannually
  • Employee recruitment, selection, training, and retention
  • Annual employee performance appraisals
  • Address employee performance concerns as required
  • Employee scheduling including vacation allowance and coverage
  • Plays a role in the development, modification and/or communication of Verve Senior Living policies and procedures
  • Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures
  • Complies with BC WorkSafe and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills
  • Completes all required mandatory training/education.
  • Provides input into the preparation of the capital and operational budgets
  • Manages the department finance, including inventory. Helps to promote initiatives that generate revenue (i.e., staff and guest meals, buffets, etc). Provides input for variance reports on financial statements
  • Attends regional dining services meetings biannually

Job Summary

 Assists the Manager on duty with the coordination of activities of associates within the food service department while maintaining the highest standards and levels of customer service.   

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Shift Managers to supervise multiple food service units.
  • Supervise the production of menu items, ensure completion of cash readings, manage associates, schedule staff working hours, hire and train employees.
  • Selects or develops on the job training aids, visual aids, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of training and development programs and utilizes relevant evaluation data to revise or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods.
  • Learn from and assist the Shift Manager to resolve labour relation issues, track and produce reports on weekly training, inventories, sales revenue, labour and food cost.
  • Communicate positively and enthusiastically to the café patrons and address their issues promptly.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Compass’ Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Program, Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS regulations.
  • Coordinate frequent workplace inspections and WHMIS training of all staff and promptly report any workplace accident or incident to head office.
  • Ensure Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards are followed in the food preparation process.
