DESCRIPTION:
The Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club (“the Club”) is the city’s premier racquets, fitness, and social Club. Located just a few minutes from downtown, the Club offers exceptional tennis, badminton, squash, fitness and aquatics programming for over 4,000 members, along with a variety of social events with upscale-casual dining in 3 restaurants.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Food & Beverage is responsible for leading, directing and ensuring smooth operation of all areas of Food and Beverage including Food & Beverage Outlets, Events/Catering, Culinary and Stewarding.  Overall responsibilities include ensuring the long term success of all Food & Beverage functions and operating by planning an operating budget, developing and implementing marketing strategies for continued growth, ensuring qualification and training of staff, setting department goals and action plans, and providing leadership and guidance to meet the Club’s goals.  The Director of Food & Beverage will lead the Food & Beverage teams to ensure our members and guests are met with friendly, efficient and attentive service, and served quality food and beverage products, meeting and exceeding their expectations. 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the functions of administration and planning of the Food & Beverage Departments to meet the daily needs of operations
  • In collaboration with the Executive Chef and Assistant Food and Beverage Managers, ensure the standards for the Food and Beverage department are consistently being upheld
  • Set a tone of consummate professionalism for the department, ensuring the team is knowledgeable and consistent
  • Implement and oversee effective cost control of food, beverage and labour costs.  Implement and monitor schedules to ensure smooth operations of all Food & Beverage staff to achieve a profitable result
  • Regularly review and evaluate member satisfaction and lead recommendations for continuous improvement and to exceed member expectations; respond to member questions and feedback
  • Regularly evaluate the performance of Food & Beverage management and provide leadership and guidance.  Lead and coach managers to evaluate and develop the performance of the teams, ensuring high quality performance of all employees
  • Be highly visible during meal periods, meeting and greeting members and guests in outlets and constantly engaging in quality checks to ensure satisfaction
  • Lead and drive staff and member engagement;  foster a culture of engagement and recognition
  • Participate and support recruitment efforts to attract and retain top talent
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and accountability with the teams.  Lead managers to build employee engagement through regular feedback and coaching, recognition and support. Coach managers with employee development including performance evaluations, progressive discipline, communication and feedback.
  • Work with the Catering Manager, support planning and administrative work related to banquets and catering as needed
  • Build strategy and develop promotions that will drive sales for the various food and beverage outlets
  • Monitor new product launches, provide feedback on menus, and recommend changes as appropriate
  • Work with the team to ensure all areas are well maintained, establish regular cleaning and inspection schedules
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Post-secondary education in hospitality / food and beverage management, or equivalent experience in Food & Beverage Operations
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a Senior Management Food & Beverage role, supporting multiple functions
  • 3-5 years’ experience in high quality and high volume operation
  • Proficient in Point of Sales software such as Jonas Software, and Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience in private club/hotel environment
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written in English; ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels of the organization with both members and staff
  • Superior organizational skills, detail oriented and able to effectively manage multiple priorities
