Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club - Food Service Manager


The Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club (“the Club”) is the city’s premier racquets, fitness, and social Club. Located just a few minutes from downtown, the Club offers exceptional tennis, badminton, squash, fitness and aquatics programming for over 4,000 members, along with a variety of social events with upscale-casual dining in 3 restaurants. 

We are looking for a full-time Food and Beverage Manager to join our team! 

JOB SUMMARY:
The Food and Beverage Manager is responsible for the day to day supervision of the Club's all day dining lounge, casual bistro and pool deck. Oversight and planning of special events & private functions are also part of the role. Responsibilities include regular involvement with recruitment and training and development of the Food & Beverage team to ensure members and guests are met with friendly, efficient and attentive service, and served quality food and beverage products, meeting and exceeding their expectations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In collaboration with the Director of Food & Beverage, the Food and Beverage Manager will ensure the standards for the Food and Beverage department are being upheld
  • Set a tone of consummate professionalism for the department, ensuring the team is knowledgeable and consistent
  • Responsible for ensuring the service experience is at a consistently high level.
  • Be highly visible during meal periods, meeting and greeting members and guests in outlets and constantly engaging in quality checks to ensure satisfaction
  • Ensure duties of all front of house Food and Beverage staff, including thorough mise-en-place and daily opening and closing duties, are being completed on a daily basis
  • Be vigilant, ensuring areas are maintained, with regular cleaning schedules and inspections established
  • Assist in the development of a training program and service standards for Food & Beverage staff
  • Responsible for initiating training, coaching and performance management of Food and Beverage staff in consultation with the Director of Food & Beverage
  • Take a leadership role in supporting activities driving staff and member engagement and recognition
  • Assist in recruitment and on-boarding of new employees as required
  • Involved with and responsible for overseeing numerous events including assisting with administrative work relating to banquets and catering
  • Develop promotions that will drive sales for the various food and beverage outlets
  • Monitor new product launches, provide feedback on menus, and recommend changes as appropriate
  • Have financial responsibilities such as payroll submission, cash-out procedures and annual budgeting
  • Responsible for responding to member questions or requests both positive and negative
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Post-secondary education in the area of Food and Beverage or equivalent experience in Food and Beverage operations
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a Food & Beverage supervisor/management role
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a high quality and high volume operation
  • Proficient in Point of Sales software such as Jonas Software and Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in private club/hotel environment an asset
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written in English; ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels of the organization with both members and staff
  • Superior organizational skills, detail oriented and able to effectively manage multiple priorities
