Be a part of this historic building in downtown Victoria. The Union Club of British Columbia was founded in 1879, and has been the home of generations of local and regional leaders. Union Club members have helped to determine the economic and political course of Victoria and British Columbia. The Union Club is a private club with 2400 resident and non-resident members. The Inn at the Club has 22 well-appointed guest rooms and suites, and the food and beverage services include a Ballroom, Reading Room, Dining Room, roof-top terrace and three function rooms. There is also a Fitness Center and Billiards Room. The Union Club is affiliated with 450 clubs in exciting locations around the world.

WORK PERFORMED
  • Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions of this key position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Directs all aspects of the Food and Beverage Operations to the Union Club’s standards
  • Leads and directs the Food and Beverage team, provides consistent support and direction to the F&B Operations in helping drive revenues and provide exceptional member and guest service
  • Represents the Union Club positively and professionally both on and off property. Works effectively with the Executive Chef in overseeing an engaged and cohesive front and back of the house staff
  • Responsible for ensuring a consistent, high quality service for all events and outlets
  • Works effectively with the Food and Beverage team to continually improve member, guest and employee satisfaction while maintaining the operating budget
  • Ensure the implementation of required standards in guest and member service and constantly seek out ways to improve product and service as well as increase volumes and profits
  • Works with Food and Beverage staff to execute the F&B strategy and focus on meeting or exceeding departmental and Club goals
  • Understands the Members’ expectations relating to food and beverage quality, presentation and service delivery. Ensures staff executes to this level in order to help build Member loyalty
  • Leads the hiring, development and retention of a diverse workforce to deliver excellent products and services. Supports a work environment that focuses on fair and equitable treatment and staff satisfaction to enable business success
  • Works very closely with the General Manager to ensure the Club’s appropriate and adequate PR interest is being met by driving innovative promotions and concepts; creating a destination of choice for increased membership
  • Responsible for the management of the department’s annual operating budget to achieve or exceed budget expectations. Helps to manage wages, productivity and expenses in accordance with business demand
  • Implements and manages all the Club’s programs to ensure compliance with all SOP’s to include safety and sanitary regulations
  • Reviews staffing levels to ensure that member service, operational needs and financial objectives are met
  • Positively interacts with members and guests, community, company representatives, vendors and local education systems as needed. Receives departmental guest complaints and ensures corrective action is taken in a consistent and professional manner
  • Direct and oversee recruitment and continued development of employees; hire, train, empower, coach and counsel, resolving conflict through fair treatment


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 5 years previous Food & Beverage experience in a leadership role required
  • Extensive restaurant experience required
  • Experience in and comprehensive knowledge of budgets, operating statements and payroll
  • Exceptional interpersonal and guest relation skills
  • Proven team-builder with outstanding coaching skills
  • Clearly demonstrated ability to be innovative, creative and able to think outside the box
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Window applications required
  • Strong problem solving abilities
  • Highly responsible & reliable
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on membership needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
