Under the general supervision of the Manager, is responsible for performing technical diet writing duties and supervision of all staff in patient services, food production and cafeteria services. Oversees meal service delivery, ordering of supplies, inventory control, warewashing, catering and general sanitation and safety procedures in the department.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Supervises the Food Service Workers, Transport Attendants, and Cook IV in the performance of their duties.
  2. Supervises the daily production and distribution of meals to all sites. Checks accuracy of the patient/resident meals according to menu and diet types to ensure correct items and portion sizes are used as per established procedures.
  3. Assists in the hiring of food service personnel. Orientates and trains staff in accordance with the department policies and procedures.
  4. Prepares appropriate menus for acute care patients according to established guidelines to ensure all patients with modified diets receive correct menus.
  5. Orders all perishable and non-perishable food and other supplies as per established procedures. Receives incoming supplies and checks invoices for accuracy; returns incorrect items promptly. Monitors inventory as per par stock levels or other established procedures so that correct level of supplies are available at all times.
  6. Ensures that all equipment is properly operated and maintains and that the staff are trained in its safe and efficient operation.
  7. Maintains and submits appropriate records, reports and statistics as required by the Manager on a monthly basis according to established procedures.
  8. Assists in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objective of the Food Services Department on an annual basis.
  9. Schedules and relieves staff as per department policies to ensures terms of the collective agreements are met.
  10. Assists and participates in the preparation and control of the Food Services annual budget by monitoring usage of supplies, inventory and wastage levels of food and other related items.
  11. Coordinates and oversees catering needs according to department procedures.
  12. Assists and consults with the Cooks in matters of menu planning and meal production to ensure all ingredients are available and used appropriately.
  13. Plans, oversees and implements changes to workload distribution in short staffed period to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
  14. Reviews and updates work schedules periodically and orientates staff to all changes.
  15. Identifies educational needs of the staff and plans in-service education to meet these needs.
  16. Conducts probationary evaluation and annual performance appraisals for designated employees; advises Manager of any performance problems.
  17. Participates in the Food Services Continuous Quality Improvement process by conducting audits, evaluating results and carry out follow-up to ensure standards are met.
  18. Participates in continuing education programs in or outside the facility to keep abreast of current developments and research in Food Services.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training And Experience
Graduation from a recognized two year program in Food Service Supervision plus two (2) years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
