Food Service Supervisor - Courtenay

JOB SUMMARY

Position: Food Service Supervisor

Full/Part Time: Part-Time
Salary:$28.65 an hour

WORK PERFORMED
  • Mentors, coaches, and directs food service staff by demonstrating, training, and instructing on established procedures, processes, and standards in the food service operation.
  • Supervises food service staff by preparing time and work schedules, assigning duties based on work priorities and availability of staff, redistributing staff where necessary, supporting the scheduling clerk as required.
  • Ensures that employees work in compliance with food safe standards and work safe practices. Evaluates employee performance and determines related training and orientation requirements.
  • Oversees, updates, and evaluates the production, preparation, portioning and serving of meals to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are maintained; checks to ensure the accuracy, presentation, etc. of food and beverage items presented to residents.
  • Ensures therapeutic diets standards of the facility are followed through orientation, training of production and service staff
  • Process diet changes and diet order in the nutrition software
  • Communicates and updates food reports on a timely basis i.e.: Tray tickets, Allergy, preference, discharge, transfer, admission.
  • Develops and reviews standards, processes, and operation procedures. Inspects the department regularly for safety and sanitation, and good working conditions of equipment and utensils.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement by conducting audits and satisfaction surveys, completing appropriate reports, providing feedback, identifying, and following up on action plan/risk factors, and making recommendations for improvements to the menu.
  • Plans menus and participates in recipe development according to nutritional requirements
  • Orders supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment. Completes work orders for routine repairs and servicing and makes recommendations for purchase/replacement or major repairs.
  • On occasion, visits residents and/or family members to obtain and exchange diet-related information. Reviews dietitian records and liaises with other staff to obtain necessary information.
  • Performs cooking and/or Food Service Worker duties as required.
  • Promotes good public and interdepartmental relations through effective and timely communication.
  • Coordinates catering events and special event request
  • Performs a variety of food services administrative duties, including compiling statistics, creating spreadsheets, preparing documents and reports, maintaining records and files.
  • All staff have a responsibility to remain aware of and report any risks or safety concerns promptly, and to follow any policies or procedures instituted to mitigate these risks. All staff has a part to play in preventing adverse events and in promoting safety for patients and staff. It is the responsibility of all staff to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to patient safety, staff safety and risk management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from a recognized two-year Diploma in Food and Nutrition Management program plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Must have an Advanced Food Safe certificate (Food Safe 2 or equivalent).
