  • Temporary, part-time or fulltime – up to 4 days per week – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday – 7:30 am to 3:30 pm daily until mid- January, with the possibility of extension.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Meal planning and preparation,

    • Volunteer recruitment, training and scheduling,
    • Facility and equipment upkeep,
    • Health and safety standards and reporting,
    • Reporting, documentation and administration requirements, and
    • Maintaining a safe and comfortable atmosphere for all clients and, in compliance with Territorial, Divisional and Ministry Unit policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for the direct supervision of non-supervisory personnel and volunteers.
    • Create, develop and maintain the menu, give oversight to ordering of food and supplies, ensure compliance with dietary regulations as per Accreditation requirements, decide on the appropriate, creative and efficient use of food, including donations, in order to minimize wastage.
    • Maintain a unified team of volunteers within the Soup Kitchen who work together in accordance with the mission and values of The Salvation Army to keep a respectful, harmonious and comfortable work environment.
    • Adapt work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services to clients.
    • Provide (or facilitate the connection to) emergency assistance services for clients coming to the soup kitchen in need (ie. housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy.
    • Maintain confidentiality and keeps accurate client files, facility documentation and statistical records.
    • May participate in preparing departmental budget.
    • May have input into discipline or providing advice and guidance within the established guidelines.
    • Current Advanced Level II Food safe Training
    • Minimum 3 years of prior related experience overseeing a comparable food services operation
    • Completed High School
    • Clear criminal record check
    • Current First Aid certification
    • Experience working with people with multiply barriers
    • Non-violent crisis intervention training preferred – capable of intervening in physical confrontations and maintaining a safe environment for staff, volunteers and clients
    • Good computer skills, good organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills
    • Physically able to assist in loading/unloading donations and lifting/moving equipment more than 20 pounds
    • Attentive listening, compassion, good communication skills and a desire to work with people
    PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities:
    Ideally completed specialized courses relevant to the work
