WORK PERFORMED
- Evaluates nutritional status/risk of patients/residents and develops/prescribes, implements, evaluates (initial and ongoing), and documents an appropriate nutritional care plan; collaborates and provides direction to nutrition staff as the plan is implemented with the patient/resident.
- Contributes to an inter-disciplinary approach to patient/resident care and program related issues by attending ward rounds and team conferences to exchange information related to patient/resident care and discharge planning. Instructs and/or counsels patients/residents and family members in nutritional issues such as diet modifications and lifestyle changes.
- Determines, refers and/or liases with community based nutritional resources as required to ensure that patient/resident care issues are addressed.
- Participates in quality improvement activities by providing input into the development, implementation, and evaluation of written procedures and standards, assessment forms, and patient/resident materials, program descriptions, audit tools and clinical guidelines for Nutrition Services and relevant clinical programs.
- Completes required patient/resident documentation, forms and reports and documents workload statistics.
- Collaborates with departmental and other team members to organize in-service education, to identify the need for and to participate in educational programs by preparing educational materials and making presentations.
- Provides clinical education and supervision to students and dietetic interns.
- Maintains knowledge of current developments in clinical nutrition by reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals and actively participating in relevant educational programs.
- Supports clinical research activities by generating questions, assisting in writing proposals, and participating in data collection and interpretation, within departmental resources.
- Monitors and controls levels of supplies and equipment. Reports equipment malfunctions and arranges for equipment maintenance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelors Degree in Food and Nutrition from a recognized University.
- Dietetic internship from an accredited program.
- Current registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
