Retail Food Services Supervisor - Burnaby

Duties:
  • Hands on coverage of front and back of house (as required from time to time for breaks or operational rushes)
  • Call INS for sick coverage and staff shortages.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by a Supervisor/Manager.
  • Maintain established sanitation and safety standards in the care and cleaning of food service areas, dishes and equipment.
  • Cashing out, bank deposits and cash reports (other reports as requested).

Qualifications

Position Summary


Interior Health is hiring a Casual Food Services Supervisor for Royal Inland Hospital in beautiful Kamloops, BC.

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Food Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Food Service operations in the designated facilities.

The typical duties and responsibilities of a Food Services Supervisor include:

  • Supervises designated staff by scheduling and co-ordinating work assignments, determining related training and orientation requirements, and providing feedback to employees.
  • In consultation with the Clinical Dietician, plans menus and develops recipes according to nutritional and therapeutic diet needs of the patients/residents.
  • Estimates food requirements, and orders and receives supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Visits patients/residents and/or family members to obtain and exchange diet-related information.
  • Monitors expenditures for assigned areas; makes recommendations regarding budget allocations and resolves discrepancies for the assigned areas.
  • Evaluates meals being served to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are maintained.
  • Coordinates meal preparation, pricing and other related duties for community based services such as Meals on Wheels
  • Assists in co-ordinating and maintaining facility in-house services by coordinating cafeteria services including pricing, staffing allotment, coordinating closure of cafeteria and securing money upon closure.
  • Performs recommended audits to ensure that established food service and quality assurance standards are met.
  • Monitors the storage of food, supplies and related items.


Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week 04:45 to 12:55, 09:00 to 17:00, 12:00 to 20:10 – Rotating Days

About the Position

An integral part of the organization, the Meal Program Coordinator works with the volunteer, programs and development teams to ensure excellent execution and stewardship of volunteer and corporate group activities within the House including Family Meals and group activities. As a community based organization, RMH BC welcomes donors to the House daily to take part in programs that serve our families.
Family Meals is a signature program for RMH BC and this role ensures that food provided to families at RMH is safely stocked, stored, prepared. The Coordinator ensures that that program volunteers and Meal groups are properly stewarded and supported at all stages, from planning meals and activities, through to execution and follow up.
This position requires a flexible schedule, working Sunday through Thursday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, to best meet the needs of our families and deliver the Meal program effectively.
Key Responsibilities:

Family Meals Program Leadership
  • Oversee the Family meals program to ensure food prepared by volunteer groups in the House is nutritious and safely prepared
  • Develop menus for and/or with groups to offer families a varied range of choices
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are adequate and working properly
  • Help to expand and elevate the program to better serve families’ needs
  • Provide tours to groups in cooperation with the Development team to share our story
  • Proactively build relationships with community and corporate groups to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.
Volunteer Support
  • Support meal program and House volunteers
  • Coordinate regular training for meal volunteers as needed
  • Work with Volunteer Manager to recruit, orient and train volunteers
  • Ensure training standards for volunteers are maintained

Under the supervision of the Coordinator, Formula Room and Milk Handling Room, the technician handles, labels, stores, prepares, and distributes human milk to inpatients in the BC Women’s Hospital NICU using safe food handling techniques and established safe milk management procedures. The technician also prepares human milk, and infant, enteral and metabolic formula to match the Nutrition Orders as required. All feeds are prepared according to the Guidelines for the Preparation of Human Milk and Formula in Health Care Facilities.
What you’ll do
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic procedures, Food Safe guidelines, and safety practices and procedures related to the handling of human milk, and the handling and preparation of infant, enteral and metabolic formula, including following the Guidelines for the Preparation of Human Milk and Formula in Health Care Facilities.
  • Prepare all infant and enteral formula and human milk feeds, with or without added nutrition products by preparing and portioning into aliquots for feeding by nurses at the patient bedside as per the Nutrition Order and in accordance with established guidelines, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Collect human milk from the NICU for labelling, storage and preparation with added nutrition products. Deliver human milk and formula to clinical areas as appropriate according to established safety standards, rotating and/or removing expired products.
  • Receive and review new and existing Nutrition Orders. Use the appropriate software technology to calculate or manually calculate amount of nutrition products to be added to human milk, or amount of product to prepare infant, enteral or metabolic formula required to achieve Nutrition Order. Verify accuracy utilizing mathematical calculations as required.

  • Grade 12 graduation.
  • Completion of a recognized two (2) year Food Service Supervisor Program.
  • One (1) year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Job Summary
Assists the Manager on duty with the coordination of activities of associates within the food service department while maintaining the highest standards and levels of customer service.

Job Summary

To promote and sell catering services. To plan and coordinate on-site catered events, supervise catering workers, perform related administrative duties.

Organizational Status

Reporting to the Catering Manager, works closely with Assistant Catering Manager and Executive Chef. Publicly represents Scholars Catering, UBC Food Services with UBC department representatives and off campus clients.

Work Performed
  • Meeting with potential customers and existing customer base to introduce and sell ScholarsCatering services. Having follow-up meetings as required.
  • Advising customers on appropriate menu options, sequence of service and budget alternatives.
  • Preparing catering contracts for clients with Scholars software program.
  • Ordering related rental equipment, submitting staff requirements for each event, and preparing floor plans, table set ups and buffet layouts.
  • Supervising and coordinating workload of up to 20 employees. Ensuring employees meet Scholars Catering customer service standards.
  • Supervising and participating in on-site setup, service, and tear down of events.
  • Training catering workers. Following up on training to ensure an understanding of the material covered and recommending training requirements to Catering Manager. Demonstrating plating and portions for meal service and buffets.
  • Ensuring the quality of service and product is up to department standards. Taking action with production or servers and making recommendations as required.
  • Monitoring and reviewing cost controls like labour cost, food cost and waste, liquor cost, overhead expenses with Catering Manager.
  • Suggesting menu alternatives ongoing basis.
  • Participating in related day to day office administrative duties, including but not limited to answering telephones, record keeping, filing, performing basic calculations, typing correspondence, and inventory.
  • Promoting Scholars catering products, services, and specials via brochures, point of sale material, web site and posters on desktop publishing programs. Circulating advertising materials and coordinating promotional mail outs to customer base as required.
  • Arranging for feedback from clients on events and following up on customer complaints and concerns.
  • Contacting employees for coverage of last minute vacancies of shifts.
  • Monitoring and ensuring safety standards are adhered to at all times.
  • Relief of catering floor staff and office staff as required.
  • Performing other related tasks.
Supervision Received

The position works independently and reports to the Catering Manager.


Supervision Given

Supervises up to 20 catering workers.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Position reports to the Catering Manager. Inaccurate judgment could impact the credibility of the department and could have a direct result on sales. Poor decisions as a supervisor could result in poor quality of food and service with an impact on sales of an ancillary department.


Qualifications

  • High School graduation and Food Safe Level 1 
  • Certificate. Food Service Management course or equivalent in education and experience. 
  • 4 years relevant experience. 
  • Two years' experience in a catering sales / co-coordinator related position from a hotel, banquet or convention facility.
  • Effective oral and written communication, organizational abilities, supervisory skills, presentation techniques and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently, sell and market a product line, coordinate various projects and meet deadlines.
  •  Must be able to work flexible hours. 
  • Ability to type 30 wpm. Computer experience required (Word, Excel, electronic mail and desktop publishing preferred).

The Food Service Supervisor also ensures that safe work practices are followed and all sanitation standards are met.

WORK PERFORMED
Your role as the Food Service Supervisor includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Provides work direction, supervision and on-going training to all assigned staff in a manner which establishes and maintains high staff morale
  • Assists in scheduling, payroll and performance management as assigned
  • Promotes and maintains excellent customer relations and effective on-going communication with all levels of staff
  • Places orders, maintains accurate and timely inventories and provides daily reports related to cost control
  • Assist with planning and executing special assignments/projects and any required follow-up
  • Conducts weekly sanitation inspections and establishes corrective action
  • Conducts and participates in staff meetings
  • Ensures that employees work in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures
  • Ensures that equipment and safe and healthy work conditions are maintained in their assigned area
  • Visits patients to ensure food service quality and preferences are met any other dietary needs
  • Sets up nourishments and marks menus as per standard diet writing guidelines
  • Acts as a liaison between Clinical and Food Service areas
  • Conducts computerized nutritional analysis of menus, recipes and food records
  • Promotes and maintains excellent customer relations and effective on-going communication with all levels of staff and clients
  • Complies with all Sodexo safety and risk management policies and procedures striving for an accident-free workplace

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current vaccinations records (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis A & B, Tuberculosis, Measles, Yearly Influenza (Flu))
  • Valid criminal record check through Ministry of Justice
  • Have the ability to meet the organizational and physical requirements of the position
  • Black slip resistant shoes
  • One-year food service experience
